Some people are by nature very perceptive and discerning, but that is not the manifestation of Discerning of Spirits. It is not a natural ability, a talent or something you can develop on your own. Discerning of Spirits is direct revelation from God involving information and power that flows from God to you as a Christian believer, via the Gift of Holy Spirit that is sealed inside you.
No matter how naturally perceptive a person is, he or she will not be able to accurately discern the presence of a devil spirit, and will certainly not be able to cast it out. It takes revelation and the power of God to do that.
That is why there are so many “mediums” who can detect and even interact with spirits. These mediums may be very perceptive, but unfortunately for most of these mediums, they are not very discerning because they are frequently deceived by spirits into believing they are good spirits or bad spirits. Devil spirits are a crafty bunch and can be very convincing liars. Never under estimate a spirit of any kind.
Without the Gift of Holy Spirit, a person can not accurately discern whether a spirit is good (of God) or bad (of the devil). It is wrong and harmful for any of us to say that someone has a demon unless we get actual revelation about it AND the guidance to reveal it. Too many Christians mistake their own thoughts and impressions for “revelation” from God.
Manifesting Power from on High
Discerning of Spirits is a revelation manifestation of the Gift of Holy Spirit. (1 Cor. 12:10 KJV) This is God revealing to you information about the presence or non-presence of spirits. As it says in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”
God has not left us helpless to our predators. Sometimes we are led by the spirit to cast out devil spirits. God has given us the ability to exercise His power to do that. That power is found within the 9 manifestations of the one big Gift of Holy Spirit.
Each manifestation is not a single gift by itself. They all work together from one big gift. Meaning, the manifestation of Discerning of Spirits works closely and in conjunction with the other manifestations.
What good is one “gift” manifestation without a combination of the other 8 to support it?
For example, let’s say that God gives you some specific knowledge through Discerning of Spirits and you are now aware of the presence of a devil spirit, and then you manifest Word of Wisdom so you know what to do about the situation. If God gives you the go ahead and you cast out the devil spirit, then you are performing a Miracle.
If you are casting a devil spirit out of a person, then in many cases the manifestation of Healing would immediately follow. And of course in all of these actions Faith is involved giving you the power and support to believe and perform all these actions as God gives you direction. Pretty cool, eh?
